Standing in the kitchen tonight, wiping counters, scrubbing pots. sweeping floors, I had that feeling of "uggh!" A little tired after a long day and the Lord brought this verse to my mind:
I Corinthians 10:31
31 Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.
That is convicting to me as I am prone to grumble (sometimes out loud and sometimes to myself) throughout the day. I am prone to forget that God is watching my every deed and that nothing goes unnoticed by the Father. Sadly, I frequently lose sight that everything I do matters to Him.
So, I am now reminding myself, and anyone else who might read this, that I need to do everything I do to the glory of God. This passage is particularly encouraging to me:
Bondservants, be obedient to those who are your masters according to the flesh, with fear and trembling, in sincerity of heart, as to Christ; 6 not with eyeservice, as men-pleasers, but as bondservants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart, 7 with goodwill doing service, as to the Lord, and not to men, 8 knowing that whatever good anyone does, he will receive the same from the Lord, whether he is a slave or free.
9 And you, masters, do the same things to them, giving up threatening, knowing that your own Master also[b] is in heaven, and there is no partiality with Him.
That really encourages my heart, to "do the will of God from the heart". I am guilty of forgetting this day to day. And I love this reminder. So wherever I am, I just need to do the will of God from my heart. The will of God for me is many little simple things: mopping, changing diapers, wiping little bottoms, cooking meals, sweeping floors, teaching children. Let me not forget that God sees all of that. It all matters to Him.
I not always sure how to do it to the glory of God, but as I scrub the toilet this evening, I am going to purpose in my heart to do it just as if Jesus had asked me to do, just as if the Father Himself needed it done. It's what He's given me today, in His will for my life, a small little thing, but a small thing that I can do unto Him. And I can say thank you for this task that He has given me do!! And whatever I do...let me do it to the glory of God.
This song is a great song about just this!!!!!
Oh, how I relate to these words. I've been working extra hard on doing jobs both pleasant and unpleasant as though I'm doing them for Jesus. Sometimes it's hard to know how, though. May we all do the will of God from our hearts! {By the way, thank you for your very kind comment on my blog this morning!} Blessings to you!
ReplyDeleteWe pray in the morning that whatever we do, we do as a praise offering for God. I don't think the boys, all ages, quite get it yet - but we pray it and I try to do it:) Even toilets (and in a house full of boys - that's a tough job!) What a blessing to remind me about that - I need to clean one of the boy's showers - and I will be thinking about this while I'm cleaning! Have a blessed week!!
ReplyDeleteThank you for your comments, ladies!! Praise the Lord, we are in this together, all seeking to honor our Redeemer!!! It really excites my heart to know that there are ladies everywhere making it our aim, by His grace to do it all for Him!!!! Have a great day!!!
ReplyDeleteOMGosh Theresa, this is great! I love your blog! A few years back, when my husband and I owned the restaurant for 7 years, the restaurant consumed our life. I felt like I could do nothing, not even give my time for God. I, in my selfishness, would say "Why God would you want me to be here. I went to college for something totally different, worked as a successful business woman for 10 years at a TV station, and now this- I get to make soups, scrub floors, lift heavy boxes, scrub countertops, portion dressings and bag to go orders all day???!!!" And then one day, while drenched in soapy water scrubbing a pot the Lord brought this same verse to my mind. Can I tell you I posted this everywhere in the back of the restaurant!!! I mean everywhere!!! I wrote it in every eye level spot. I typed it up and hung it up. It was even hanging in the refrigerator! LOL! I even had it printed on all of our business checks. I needed it up to remind me always that he blessed me with this husband and my husband's business. It has become our catering business's "motto" if you will on all of our business letterhead, stickers, etc. I love this verse. I read it to my husband often. It is my absolute favorite!!!! Thank you for sharing! Hugs! ~Your Cousin
